The REC framework is designed to improve the representation, progression and success of Black and minority ethnic staff and students in higher education. The Silver Award acknowledges the university’s significant progress in advancing racial equity and its commitment to continuing this work.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Donna Whitehead said:
“This award is a powerful recognition of the role that equity and inclusion play in everything we do at Brighton. It reflects the dedication of our staff and students in challenging inequity, celebrating diversity and driving meaningful change across our institution.”
While proud of this achievement, the university acknowledges that there is still much more to do. It continues to work to address disparities in student degree outcomes for those from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds, improve the representation of Black and minority ethnic staff in senior roles, and ensure inclusive and equitable recruitment and progression practices across the institution.
