School of Applied Sciences
Technicians in the School of Applied Sciences support teaching, research and enterprise across a diverse range of fields including biology, biomedical science, chemistry, ecology and conservation, geography, the Earth, environment and pharmacy.
They ensure the continued upkeep of the school’s facilities and provide expertise and demonstration in areas such as:
- HPLC
- tissue culture
- flow cytometry
- mass spectrophotometry
- nuclear magnetic resonance
- electron microscopy
- microbiology XRF
- ICP.
School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering
The technical staff within the School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering manage a range of specialist facilities on the Moulsecoomb campus.
They support a broad range of activities which include:
- building and land surveying
- mechanical
- electrical and electronic design and manufacture
- materials testing (civil and mechanical)
- product design
- rapid prototyping
- interior and architectural design.
They also provide technical support and demonstration of specialist skills for our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, alongside research and enterprise.
School of Art and Media
The School of Art and Media technical team provides technical support across four subject areas – fashion textiles and 3D, fine art, media and visual communications – delivering specialist inductions, demonstrations and skill sessions to our undergraduate, postgraduate students and supporting research and enterprise.
The team manages and supports a wide range of specialist technical facilities which include:
- film and photographic studios
- digital manufacturing
- wood metal and ceramics workshops
- printmaking
- painting studios
- weaving
- knitting workshops, including industrial machinery
- fashion workshops
- book arts and letterpress
- digital typography.
School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences
The technical staff within the School of Education, Sport, and Health Sciences provide comprehensive support across a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and apprenticeship courses. They play a critical role in ensuring health and safety and compliance in our workshops, laboratories and specialist facilities.
Assisting in training future teachers, in the education sector their expertise spans science, math, art, design and technology and computer science. For sport and health sciences, they support teaching, research, consultancy and enterprise across diverse subjects, including nursing sciences, sport, public health and wellbeing, rehabilitation sciences and acute and community care.
Our facilities, located on the Falmer site, include:
- Meads sport science laboratories
- strength and conditioning gym
- nutrition suite
- clinical skills rooms
- simulation suites
- virtual and augmented reality labs.
The technical team is dedicated to the maintenance and operation of all equipment, providing essential technical support and skill demonstrations for our educational programmes, research projects and enterprise initiatives.
School of Humanities and Social Science
Technicians in the School of Humanities and Social Science support teaching and research within the psychology department. They manage the equipment and lab spaces for the school as well providing technical support and demonstration of specialist skills to the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
